  • Assertiveness Building
  • Awareness Creation
  • Business Management
  • Legal rights: to create awareness of human rights of women and children
Caritas-DSM | Socio-Economic DevelopmentQualified members visit each other to ensure commitment and cooperation among group members who guarantee each other’s loan. Then small groups are formed. So far there are 10 groups in Manzese and 6 in Mtoni

Training Skills:
20 members from both centers obtained different skills. 12 acquired tailoring/embroidery, batik and tie/dye, 2 computer training, 4 hairdressing, 1 nursing and 1 hotel management/catering.

Exchange Visits:
Members are connected and encouraged to visit WID (Women in Development) Program networking organizations, like TGNP (Tanzanian Gender Networking Program), and WLAC (Women’s Legal Aid Center) to gain new ideas and more exposure regarding the nature of their lives.

Success:
Young Single Mothers are able to:
  • Formulate groups’ constitutions for their centers with regards to rules, regulations and benefits for group members.
  • Analyze their problems and become familiar with existing oppressive and exploitative socio-economic relationships.
  • Become self-reliant by prioritizing their needs and interests.
  • Balance their family responsibilities while remaining committed to their business acumen.
  • Expand their business and get marketing opportunitities in formal sectors.
  • Improve their family life, pay school fees for their children and build their own houses.
So far (2000-2004) we have 112 active members. 60 members have successfully completed their small loans and have taken their savings to increase their capital. 6 have passed away (3 of them from AIDS).
